Koransha — Arita Porcelain Since 1689

Koransha is one of Japan’s most distinguished porcelain makers, with roots dating back to 1689 in Arita, Saga Prefecture—one of the historic centers of Japanese porcelain.

The modern Koransha organization was established in 1875 by skilled Arita potters, decorators, and merchants working together to bring Japanese porcelain to an international audience. Its craftsmanship received recognition at major world expositions, including a gold medal at the 1878 Paris Exposition. In 1896, Koransha was appointed an official supplier to Japan’s Imperial Household Ministry.

Tradition Made for Everyday Life

Koransha porcelain is known for its refined forms, graceful patterns, luminous glazes, and distinctive use of deep blue and delicate color. Although shaped by centuries of craftsmanship, many pieces are designed to be enjoyed in everyday life—not simply displayed.

The company’s balance of tradition and contemporary design continues to receive international recognition. In 2019, Koransha’s Pinstripe R Cup & Saucer received the Best New Product award in the Tabletop + Gourmet Housewares category at NY NOW in New York.
