A Refreshing Yame Sencha for Everyday Enjoyment

Sencha is Japan’s most widely enjoyed style of loose-leaf green tea, known for its refreshing aroma, balanced flavor, and gentle astringency.

Murasaki is a Yabukita-led sencha produced by Hoshino Seichaen in the mountainous tea-growing region of Yame, Fukuoka.

It offers moderate bitterness and astringency with the clean, refreshing character associated with traditional Japanese sencha. When brewed with slightly cooler water, its natural sweetness becomes more noticeable.

Harvested around early May, Murasaki is easy to enjoy throughout the year. Its refreshing finish and balanced character make it especially suitable for daily drinking and pairing with meals.

Brewing Instructions

Traditional Preparation — Hoshino Seichaen Recommendation

For 2–3 small Japanese teacups

  • Tea: 6g
  • Water: 6 fl oz (180ml)
  • Water temperature: 158°F (70°C)
  • Steeping time: Approximately 60–75 seconds
  1. Bring fresh water to a full boil.
  2. Pour the water into the serving cups to measure the appropriate amount and allow it to cool to approximately 158°F (70°C).
  3. Place 6g of tea leaves in a teapot.
  4. Pour the cooled water into the teapot.
  5. Steep for approximately 60–75 seconds.
  6. Pour a little tea into each cup in rotation to distribute the flavor evenly.
  7. Continue pouring until the teapot is completely empty.

For the second infusion, add hot water and begin pouring after a shorter steep.

For the best flavor: Use fresh, good-quality water.

Luna Matcha tip: Filtered or soft water works especially well for Japanese green tea.

Adjusting the Flavor

For a lighter and more refreshing cup, use a slightly shorter steep.

To bring out more sweetness and soften the tea’s bitterness and astringency, allow the water to cool slightly below 158°F(70°C)before brewing.

For a Larger Cup — Luna Matcha Recommendation

For a 12 fl oz (355ml) cup, begin with approximately 7–9g of tea.

Use water at approximately 158°F (70°C) and steep for 60–75 seconds. Adjust the amount of tea or steeping time according to your preferred strength.

Directly doubling the traditional ratio to 12g will produce a significantly stronger cup with more caffeine.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from heat, moisture, direct sunlight, and strong odors.

Keep the inner package tightly sealed and return it to the canister after each use.
