Why Matcha Pricesโand AvailabilityโSometimes Change
Share
A favorite matcha may be available one month and difficult to find the next. Its price can change, too. We understand how frustrating that can be when you simply want to keep making the drink you enjoy.
At Luna Matcha, availability depends on the quantities we can source and receive. Our pricing decisions consider replacement costs, import expenses, expected supply, and demand. These factors do not affect every product in the same way.
Our goal is to make authentic Japanese tea easier to buy in the United States. That is a commitment to sourcing and service, not a promise that every tea will always be in stock.
Why a Particular Matcha Can Be Hard to Restock
Matcha depends on agricultural production as well as processing and packing capacity. More demand for a named blend does not mean its producer can immediately supply more of it.
Marukyu Koyamaen has documented periods when demand exceeded its capacity. For example, its March 2025 notice announced purchase limits at its directly managed shops. That notice provides background on supply pressure; it is not a statement of todayโs limits at every seller.
For Luna Matcha, the quantity available to order from a producer may be smaller than the quantity customers want. A shipment may also contain only some products or package sizes. Receiving one delivery does not necessarily mean that the entire range has returned.
How We Review Prices at Luna Matcha
For selected Marukyu Koyamaen products, we periodically review:
- Replacement cost: what it will cost us to buy the next shipment, not only what we paid for the stock already here.
- Expected supply: the quantities we can obtain and how confidently we can plan replenishment.
- Currency exchange: changes in the dollar cost of purchases made in yen.
- Shipping, import, and handling costs: the expenses involved in bringing stock to the U.S.
- Demand and available inventory: how quickly particular products are selling relative to what we can replace.
These are Luna Matchaโs retail pricing decisions. A change in our price does not necessarily mean the manufacturer changed its own retail price by the same amount.
Prices may move up or down as circumstances change. Improved supply can give us reason to review a price, but it does not automatically trigger an immediate reduction: replacement costs and other expenses may still differ.
What Pricing and Purchase Limits Canโand CannotโDo
We consider pricing and, where applicable, purchase limits when managing a limited allocation. Our aim is to make stock available to more customers over time.
Neither measure creates additional tea or guarantees availability. We may still sell out, and a higher price does not guarantee that a product will be easier to buy later.
Check the individual product page for the offered size, price, availability, and any stated purchase limit. Those details are more useful for your order than a general announcement about matcha supply.
Why Our Organic Range Follows a Different Pattern
Our Luna Matcha organic range is planned through different sourcing relationships from the named Marukyu Koyamaen products we carry. Long-term relationships and advance inventory planning have helped us keep its pricing relatively stable in our experience.
Price stability remains a priority, but our own range is also affected by production costs, exchange rates, shipping, and availability. It is not exempt from future price changes or stock interruptions.

What to Do When Your Usual Matcha Is Unavailable
You do not need to find a perfect copy of your favorite tea. Start with what you enjoy about it and how you prepare it.
- For a bold everyday latte: consider Luna Matcha Symphony if you want an organic option with budget in mind.
- For a smoother, umami-rich profile: consider Luna Matcha Umami Burst, including for lattes when your budget allows.
- For tea whisked with water: compare flavor descriptions and the producerโs preparation recommendations.
- For koicha: choose a tea specifically recommended for that use; do not assume that any similarly priced alternative will suit it.
These are options to explore, not identical replacements or promises of current stock. Start with a practical package size and adjust your recipe to the new tea.
If you want help, tell us which tea you normally drink, whether you add milk, and your budget. That gives us a useful starting point for suggesting an available alternative.
Comparing Our Price with Buying from Japan
Buying directly from Japan can sometimes be cheaper. Compare the same tea and quantity using the full cost of receiving it, including shipping and any applicable import or payment charges.
Luna Matcha offers U.S.-held inventory, domestic fulfillment, and a U.S.-based point of contact. We do not claim to be the lowest-priced source in every comparison, and domestic delivery is not a guarantee against delays.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why did the price change since my last order?
We review replacement costs, expected supply, import expenses, and demand. The mix of factors can differ by product. Contact us if you have a question about a particular listing.
Will the price drop when supply improves?
It may, but that is not automatic. We also consider the cost of replenishing and handling the product. We cannot promise a future price or adjustment date.
When will a sold-out product return?
Timing depends on the producerโs available quantities and the progress of the shipment. Check the product page or ask us what information is currently available. An estimated arrival is not a guaranteed restock date.
Should I buy extra because stock is limited?
Buy an amount that fits your use and storage needs, and observe any purchase limits. An oversized order is not necessarily better value if you cannot enjoy the tea at the condition you prefer.
Our Commitment
We will continue to source carefully, review our pricing thoughtfully, and explain what we know about the products we offer. When your preferred tea is unavailable, we want to help you find a suitable option rather than leave you guessing.
