This handcrafted iron kettle (kama) is the work of master metal artisan Keiten (敬典), a renowned craftsman associated with the traditional Yamagata casting (山形鋳物) technique in Japan.
The kettle, titled Heimaru Suji-iri Kama (平丸筋入釜), features a gracefully rounded body with finely etched horizontal lines that accentuate its serene, symmetrical form. Its minimalist silhouette is enhanced by a subdued, natural patina—bringing a quiet dignity to the piece, ideal for the contemplative atmosphere of the tea ceremony.
The kettle is paired with both a perfectly fitting metal lid and a handcrafted wooden lid, offering versatility in seasonal use. Its functional iron rings and smooth, unembellished surface reflect the wabi-sabi spirit: beauty in simplicity, imperfection, and age.
This piece comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako), inscribed by the artist himself, affirming its authenticity and provenance.
