This Bizen-yaki tea caddy (chaire) is a fine example of traditional Japanese pottery, known for its natural, unglazed appearance. Bizen ware is characterized by earthy tones, rough textures, and organic patterns created during the high-temperature, wood-firing process. The subtle variations in color and natural ash effects seen on this piece are the result of centuries-old kiln techniques passed down through generations.
Used in Japanese tea ceremonies to store powdered tea (matcha), this chaire also serves as a collectible object, appreciated for its rustic elegance and wabi-sabi aesthetic. It comes with a silk brocade pouch (shifuku) and the original signed wooden box (tomobako) for safe storage and display.
